Who ever heard of "dirthog" day??

After picking Thomas up from school today I had a cute little conversation with him

Thomas: Mom - I hope the warthog doesn't see his shadow
Mom: What?
Thomas: No, No - I mean the Dirthog - I hope the dirthog doesn't see his shadow
Mom: (I was not following - blond moment really...) I don't know what you're talking about.
Thomas: Mom! (very irritated) - You know the dirthog - if he sees his shadow there is 6 more weeks of winter??
Mom: Oh (finally getting it) - you mean groundhog - if the groundhog sees his shadow
Thomas: Yes mom -that's what I said!!

Worst mother of the year award!!!

OK - I should have posted this awhile ago - but I am thinking I must have been traumatized so I put it off a bit. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago we were at my mom's house and Thomas was playing with a small football (that happened to be very flat). He was biting on the end of it and poking me with the other end - so I grabbed the ball and pulled it out... along with his tooth. Oh my - there was screaming (freaked Thomas out and I am sure it probably hurt!) as well as lots of blood. I felt horrible!!! Though I have to say he had to eventually lose a tooth - he is the only one in his class that has not lost one yet. Anyway, after about 10 minutes of freaking out - I finally calmed him down by telling him the "Tooth Fairy" brings $5.00 for the first tooth (yeah - shelled out big bucks for that one). Anyway, in the long run - it ended up okay - but sheesh!! Not a good night for me. Anyway, he lost his second one on Friday - he pulled it out himself at school. He was quite thrilled with the cool little tooth box he got but no so thrilled for the measly dollar he got. Oh well - teeth are becoming a very stressful thing at our house!

Proud to be an American!

Yesterday was a great and historic day for our nation. To my surprise, I became a bit emotional as I watched our 44th president take his oath of office. It became very clear to me at that point of how great a nation we live in that respects the voice of its people- even if it was different than my voice. I did not vote for Obama - but I respect the process that put him into office. I listened to his speech and realized that his best interest is this country and I really feel he will do his best to lead us in the direction we need to go. Politics is an interesting thing - especially working in an environment where political views can differ greatly from mine. I don't mind - that is what makes this nation great. We have our opinions and we should respect other's opinions - even if we don't agree. Watching the inauguration yesterday reminded me what it is to be an American. I am grateful for a system that I feel is an inspired system that allows people to vote for an individual they feel will do our country the greatest good. I am very blessed to be an American and to witness this piece of history for our nation. I will support this President whole heartily and hope to see greatness from him!

Another quick update...

Hi Everyone - I just wanted to let you know that we got the results back from my surgery and all is okay! The doctor is recommending though that I go back and remove everything because I have had the same problem twice (in his words - I have dodged a bullet twice now)- so now the decision needs to be made as to if we are actually done having kids or not. I never thought this would be such a hard decision but it really is because of how final it is. I don't know - Andrew and I are now faced with this dilemma - I guess we will see what happens. As difficult as this decision is however, we feel very blessed that this was nothing too big and that I am basically doing fine. Scary stuff - but all is well! Thanks to everyone who kept us in your prayers!!

Happy First Birthday Mattie (a day late!)

Mattie is 1! - is anyone else out there as stunned as I am??? Time flew and I am in shock that my baby is really a toddler - out to conquer her world! Mattie was our surprise baby, but I must say that never have I felt that she wasn't supposed to be a part of our family. Since the moment I laid eyes on here (meaning on the ultra sound in the doctors office) I knew this beautiful baby was meant to be here at this time. She has added a little extra spunk to our family and I am grateful she is here. She is full smiles and laughter and she gives the best baby hugs you could ask for. Her favorite things are monkeys (not a joke) and she loves her big brother and sister more than anything - except for maybe her daddy! She is my cuddle baby and my favorite moments with her are in the mornings when I go to get her out of bed or when I pick her up from her babysitter and I am greeted with a sweet "hi" and a big hug. Perfect!!! Makes me smile every time. She is a sweet baby and we love her and again are grateful she is part of our little family!!
